Many newly admitted students at the University of Ghana, Legon are compelled to give up their admission after finding it hard to obtain accommodation.

The university has offered over 15,000 undergraduate students admissions and these students are currently facing challenges in securing accommodation since there are less than 3,000 beds available.

In an interview with JoyNews, the newly admitted students narrated how they are tempted to abandon their admission due to the perennial accommodation crisis.

Daniel Elijah Twum who is a fresher said every attempt to secure a room online proved futile and that compelled him to come to campus from Winneba to search for a room.

According to him, he was told at the various traditional halls of residence that there was no bed space.

This, he said, persuades him to give up his admission.

“I am tired. I have done everything I could. I have been moving from hall to hall and floor to floor. It’s like I have gotten the school, but I haven’t. At times, I feel like giving up. Maybe staying at home and coming back next year," he said.

However, Daniel is not the only student in this predicament. There are a couple of students facing a similar challenge.

They have been to the various halls but there was no hope of getting accommodation.
