In June
1944, George Stinney Jr who was an African-American and 14yrs old was sentenced
to death for a crime he did not commit and was executed by an electric chair.
George was
accused of killing two white girls, Betty and Mary who of ages 11 and 7
respectively. According to reports, the bodies were found near George’s house
where he lived with his parents. He was arraigned before court, at the time
racism was at it its peak in America and it only got worse for George as he only
got a jury made up of only whites.
His trial
took just took two hours and ten minutes later he got served with a death
sentence in what appears to be an unfair trial. His parents were also restricted
from being present at his trial and were also later expelled from the city. He
was also held in prison without having to see his parents and not having anyone
to talk to.
George was
however executed by an electric chair with more than five thousand volts
passing through his head. Several decades later 2014, a judge from south Caroline
exonerated him and said he was tried unfairly. A movie titled 83 Days, was made in
