The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) said lorry fares all over the country will be increased by 40% effective January 17, 2022.

In a press statement released on Sunday, January 10, 2022, the Concerned Drivers union indicated that the 40% increment in transport fares is fueled by the economic difficulties facing drivers in the country.

The drivers said although they sympathize with the general public, it is highly necessary to make the 40% increment to enable them to keep their driving business alive.

“It must be noted that we commiserate with Ghanaians on the current economic hardship, but to keep us in business, we are left with no other option but to adjust transport fares a little upward, which is a 40% increment,” part of the release said.

According to the Concerned Drivers Association, several factors such as increment in prices of petroleum products, increment in vehicle prices, and also increment in prices of lubricants and spare parts have caused this development.

The C-DAG revealed that they are also affected by the economic hardship the public is facing as a result of inflation so much so that they cannot even financially manage their homes properly.

The C-DAG urged Ghanaians to cope with the new challenge and avoid fighting or exchanging words with transport operators when the proposed prices take effect next week.
