CHELSEA have yet to make their first January transfer window signing.

Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, which could force the Blues to launch a third transfer plan in the coming weeks to solve their left-back dilemma. Lucas Digne was also reportedly on Marina Granovskaia's radar, but it now appears that the Frenchman will join Aston Villa.

Chelsea are looking for left-back reinforcements in the January market as a result of Ben Chilwell's long-term injury.

So far, Marcos Alonso has filled in for the Englishman, but with silverware on the line between now and the end of the season, fans are likely to expect a step up in quality.

Wantaway Everton Lucas Digne appeared to be on the market in January after informing manager Rafa Benitez of his desire to leave Goodison Park.

However, Sky Sports reports that Villa are in advanced talks to sign the former Barcelona left-back in an impressive coup for the West Midlands club.

Last month, Tuttosport reported that Chelsea were interested in AC Milan's flying full-back Hernandez.

Since leaving Real Madrid in 2019, the 24-year-old has taken Serie A by storm, and he has a goals-to-game ratio that some strikers would envy.

As a result, he would be ideal for Thomas Tuchel's wing-back system, but the Blues are unlikely to get their wish.

According to the report, Milan are holding out for a whopping £50 million, a fee that would be difficult to justify if Hernandez was only signed to compete with Chilwell in the long run.

Furthermore, he is so well-liked at the San Siro that they are already in advanced talks to sign him to a new contract until 2026.

With two transfer plans appearing to be dormant.

If Chelsea is unable to find a suitable replacement, they may be forced to consider a third option.

intends to hire cover before the end of the month

Tuchel, on the other hand, may have an in-house solution in Emerson Palmieri, who is currently on loan with Lyon.

The Italy international has never played more than 15 Premier League games for Chelsea in a single season, but he could see more action if he is required to return to Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season.
