About 20 armed police personnel reportedly went to the Accra 100.5 FM's office to arrest the station's drive time host, Doctor Kay, on Monday, January 10, 2022 for allegedly obstructing police from performing their duty.
The police officers, who initially intended to arrest a news anchor, Nana Ama Agyarko, ended up arresting the host of the station's drive time host who they said, obstructed police work.
Background
Three plain-clothed men together with five men who described themselves as staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) stormed the Labone-based Accra 100.5 FM on Monday seeking to see the radio station's permit to broadcast the ongoing 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The GBC staff said the radio station was not permitted to air the matches resulting in a controversy between them and Nana Ama Agyarko.
Nana Ama Agyarko suspected the plained-clothed men were imposters and not police officers as they claimed due to their dress code. This caused a brouhaha.
Twenty police officers later stormed the premises of the radio station to arrest Nana Ama Agyarko but could not access the studio because she was anchoring the evening news.
The police officers arrested Doctor Kay who they said also prevented the police from discharging their duty.
Doctor Kay was taken to the headquarters of the police and was later granted bail.
Meanwhile, the station's management urged the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akufo Dampare, to investigate the conduct of the police personnel.
