Takumi Minamino was slammed on social media after missing a sitter with the goal gaping late in the Anfield leg. Liverpool striker Takumi Minamino was slammed on social media after missing a gaping goal to break the deadlock in their Carabao Cup semi-final stalemate with 10-man Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds were frustrated in the first leg at Anfield, where a resilient Arsenal side held them to a 0-0 draw despite Granit Xhaka's early red card, but the home side had a golden chance to score late on through Minamino.

Minamino had a gaping goal to aim at after Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale fluffed a punch, leaving the Gunners goalkeeper stranded.

In what was Liverpool's best chance of the game, the Japanese forward blazed over into the Kop.

And Minamino was chastised by several Liverpool fans for his lack of composure in front of goal, which could be crucial in this semi-final tie.

'Sigh.... Minamino...' wrote one fan. How do you miss from 5 meters out with an empty goal in front of you????? It's easier to score than it is to miss.'

Another user stated that 'this Minamino bloke is so bad,' while another stated that 'Liverpool is useless without (Sadio) Mane and (Mohamed) Salah (both of whom are at the Africa Cup of Nations).'

'Poor from Ramsdale, but thankfully Salah & Mane are on international duty so the sitter is safe,' an Arsenal fan tweeted fell to Minamino'Meanwhile, one fan commented, 'How tf Minamino. Blasts it into row Z with the goal at his disposal. Terrible.'

'That was easier to score than miss tbh from Minamino,' said another fan.

One disgruntled Liverpool fan went on to say, 'Minamino, the worst signing of the Klopp era.' That wasn't enough for Soton.'

The result means Liverpool failed to establish their dominance in the tie despite having a man advantage for the majority of the first leg.
