Newly admitted students at the University of Ghana, Legon has lamented over the effects of the ongoing University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG)'s strike on academics and the academic calendar.
The students, who got enrolled into the university a few days ago were surprised to see that lecturers were not at post because of a nationwide industrial strike embarked by the lecturers.
The students were worried that the strike action will attract undesirable effects on the academic calendar paving way for another calendar.
"It's going to hurt us on our sides because most of them are not even aware that lecturers are on strike and those who are aware too, it's actually a big shock to them. Our financial status will also drain because we will be planning on going to campus to study but when they get here most of them will be told that lecturers are on strike which I think is not going to help us at all. It's going to help our lecturers and all those stuff," a student told Citi News.
Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission in a statement issued on Friday, January 14, called on the members of UTAG to call off the strike.
The NLC said the strike does not conform to laid down procedures and so it is illegal.
