The Gyasenhene of Dawuriso in the Asante Akyem North District, Ashanti Region, has murdered himself out of depression after losing a huge sum of money that did not belong to him to stake a bet.

The Gyasehene who used a sum of Ghc 120,000 belonging to some cocoa farmers to bet on the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON), had committed suicide on Thursday, January 13, 2022.

The retired 76-year-old educationist reportedly shot himself on Thursday morning in the absence of his son who was away to prepare porridge for him on his request.

Reports indicate that the deceased, who acted as the cocoa farmers in the Asante Akyem North district's treasurer, earlier discussed with his family and some cocoa farmers about his bankruptcy and he was assured of support to settle his debt.

However, he resorted to suicide when his confidants failed to raise for him the money.

Class FM's correspondent Nana Amoako Gyampo said the late chief was persuaded by someone to stake the bet to win more money and he obeyed.

He said the deceased was expected to return the money by Monday, January 17 but when he could not raise even half of the money as of Thursday, January 13, he killed himself.
