Accommodation crisis has been a perennial problem in most tertiary institutions in Ghana like the University of Ghana, the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), and many others.
This crisis has necessitated the abnormal increments in hostel fees at the detriment of students in most Ghanaian universities.
At the Ghana Institute of Journalism, students pay between Ghc 3,000 and Ghc 5,000 as hostel fees for just a semester.
This has imposed a huge financial burden on students, hence compelling them to lament over hostel fees hikes.
Speaking to a GhOne Tv correspondent, some students of GIJ have expressed worry about the accommodation crisis bedeviling them.
"Students are suffering especially we GIJ students. Because looking at the distance from this place to GIJ, is a long one. We have to pay for transportation. We have to pay Ghc 3,000 just for a semester which is like two months and a few weeks. It is too much for us," Ramla Seidu.
Ramla was not the only one bothered by the hikes in hostel prices. Cynthia, who had managed to secure a small place just to lay her head also lamented.
"In terms of accommodation in GIJ, it's very bad. The school doesn't have a hostel. The private ones we have are expensive," she said.
Meanwhile, while students are lamenting, hostel managers are happily enriching themselves and smiling to the bank.
