Cristiano Ronaldo is anxious to demonstrate that he is still a goal-scoring machine, and Daily Star Sport has examined the five players who have set up the most goals for him over his storied career.
Cristiano Ronaldo astonished the world when he returned to Manchester United this summer, but his fantasy homecoming has turned into a nightmare for the Portuguese superstar.
United has struggled in the Premier League this season, and any title dreams have long since vanished.
As United consider their next management appointment, The Daily Star exclusively revealed earlier this month that Ronaldo is pondering whether or not to leave Old Trafford at the conclusion of the season.
Despite the fact that United has struggled, Ronaldo has not. The 36-year-old has kept his half of the deal, scoring 14 goals in 22 games to lead the Old Trafford scoring statistics.
After excelling for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, it's unlikely that many people are surprised that Ronaldo is still scoring goals in his later years.
Last month, Ronaldo scored his 800th goal in a 3-2 triumph over Arsenal, but did you realize who has assisted on more of his goals than anybody else? The Daily Star Sport examines the five individuals who have provided Ronaldo with the most assists over the years...
1) Real Madrid's Karim Benzema (47 assists)
Karim Benzema has provided Cristiano Ronaldo with more assists than anybody else.
Karim Benzema has provided Cristiano Ronaldo with more assists than anybody else.
Karim Benzema, Ronaldo's prolific attack partner, teed up Ronaldo more times than anybody else during his nine years at the Bernabeu.
During his trophy-laden stint with the La Liga giants, the French attacker was frequently teamed with Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Benzema assisted on 47 of Ronaldo's goals during his time in Spain, significantly more than any other player who has ever played with the veteran in his brilliant career.
Benzema and Ronaldo both played over 340 appearances at Real Madrid before the latter left to join Juventus in the year of 2018.
2) Real Madrid's Gareth Bale (32 assists)
On the field, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have formed a successful combination.
Benzema, not Bale, provided Ronaldo with the most assists throughout their time together at Los Blancos.
Bale's world-record £85 million transfer from Tottenham overtook the previous mark of £80 million paid by Real Madrid to entice Ronaldo away from United.
In his early years in Spain, the Welsh wizard was a smash hit, forming a dream attacking trio with Ronaldo and Benzema.
During their five years together, Bale contributed 32 assists to Ronaldo.
3) Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil (31 assists)
Mesut Ozil was Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate at Real Madrid for three seasons.
With Mesut Ozil called the 'assist king,' it's no surprise that the German midfield maestro has set up Ronaldo more times than any other player save Bale and Benzema.
Even though he was third on the list, Ozil spent the least amount of time on the field with Ronaldo. Before he departed to join Arsenal, the two only played together for three years.
Even with only 149 games under his belt, Ozil was able to provide 31 assists to the seasoned striker.
After leaving Real, Ozil went on to create havoc in the Premier League for a short time with his playmaking prowess, but his time with Arsenal ended in disappointment.
4) Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria (25 assists)
Angel Di Maria was another player who struck up an almost telepathic understanding with Ronaldo on the pitch during his four years at the Bernabeu.
Despite only playing with Ronaldo for a similar amount of time, the Argentine winger came close to matching Ozil's score.
In 166 games, Di Maria provided Ronaldo with 25 assists.
The 33-year-old spent four years at Real Madrid before joining Manchester United in a high-profile transfer.
Real Madrid's Marcelo has 25 assists.
On and off the field, Marcelo and Ronaldo had a strong friendship.
Marcelo, one of Ronaldo's closest pals from his time in Spain, makes the cut on this list, which is fitting.
The Brazilian is widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in football history, and he has been surprisingly consistent for Real Madrid over the previous decade.
During his time with Ronaldo, the 33-year-old, who joined Los Blancos in 2007, managed to match Di Maria's tally of 25 assists.
Although the two played together for the entirety of Ronaldo's nine-year stint in La Liga, Di Maria's total from a defensive position demonstrates just how exceptional a player the experienced full-back is.
