After a fantastic performance in the Spanish Super Cup win on Sunday night, Luka Modric has made it clear that he wants to continue at Real Madrid beyond this season and expects a new deal to be signed.
In a 2-0 triumph over Athletic Bilbao, the 36-year-old scored the game's first goal, earning him the Most Valuable Player title.
He is still a key player for Real, having made 14 La Liga appearances this season, all of which have been in the starting lineup.
His future, though, has remained uncertain, as his contract is set to expire in the summer and no extension has yet been reached.
The former Tottenham star has been linked with a return to the Premier League with Manchester City, but he has made it clear that he wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and is certain that he will be able to strike a deal with the club.
'There is nothing greater for me than to play for Real Madrid,' he remarked. 'Right now, I'm not thinking about the renewal.' The club is aware of my desires. We'll undoubtedly reach a deal soon.'
'Luka has not yet signed his contract, but he has had a life-long deal with Real Madrid for a long time,' said Real manager Carlo Ancelotti last month.
Florentino Perez, the club's president, is a big fan of the midfielder, predicting that he might win the Ballon d'Or for the second time this year after winning it in 2018.
'Modric has continued to be in fantastic form this season,' Perez remarked. 'He is deserving of another Ballon d'Or.'
