Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has stated that he has no intention of forcing any traditional monarch to submit to him.
The Asantehene indicated at the first Council Meeting in the Ashanti Region that his objective is to give a facelift to those willing to improve traditional regions under his jurisdiction.
"The government established the new regions, namely Ahafo and Bono East, in order to expand development.
"It doesn't mean you've become autonomous if you're under the Asante Kingdom; you still serve the Golden Stool (sikadwa)," the Ashanti Kingdom's monarch explained.
The Asantehene further stressed that he has no desire to distort history, but that facts must be respected.
"I'd want to remind people who have likely forgotten history and are spouting from ignorance that we have not compelled anyone to serve us."
"It's a privilege to serve the Golden Stool." "It was my orchestration when Dormaa Kusi was defeated," he said. "Agyeman Badu was a teacher, and he swore before me before ascending the throne as the chief of Dormaa."
He promised that all of the chiefs in the Bono and Bono East regions would be safe.
"I, too, am a guy, but I choose peace."
A similar conflict erupted between the Asantehene and the chief of Techiman in 2010, prompting the then-president, the late John Evans Atta Mills, to dispatch a high-powered government delegation to engage Otumfuo and prevent an escalation.
This was after the Tuobodom chief, Nana Asare Baffour, who owes allegiance to the Asantehene, was dragged to Chief of Techiman Nana Akumfi Ameyaw’s palace.
