“I don’t live for fashion, I live for beauty and style. fashion is fleeting, style remains.”
“I scorched the earth with my talent and I let my light shine.”
These are two of the many famous quotes by Andre Leon Talley, the fashion legend and icon. He died at the age 73.
Sources close to the mogul confirm he passed away Tuesday at a hospital in White Plains, NY.
According to PEOPLE magazine, Talley first joined Vogue in 1983 as the magazine's fashion news director. He quickly rose to creative director and editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's right-hand — a position he held from 1987 to 1995. He left Vogue in 1995 and moved to Paris, where he returned to W Magazine after working at the publication earlier in his career.
Talley was also a judge on America’s Next Top Model. Talley also became the Obama family’s fashion advisor in 2008. He interviewed Michelle Obama for Vogue when she stepped into the role of first lady in 2009, later calling her “the most fashionable woman in America”
Talley praised Michelle Obama for her fashion sense, detailing how she well accessorizes and combines everything she puts on.
"No one saw the world in a more elegant and glamorous way than you did," wrote Diane von Furstenberg. "The world will be less joyful now.…”
The last respects to the mogul from her and many others make it evident how huge Leon Talley actually was as a person and fashion influencer.
Talley’s fashion influence and sense is unmatched, as he is famous for many of his works; quite evident from working for Vogue and many fashion companies.
He will be truly missed.
