Morocco and Comoros defeated the Black Stars after Gyan was left off of Ghana's AFCON roster. For the first time in 15 years, Ghana has exited the AFCON group stages, and Ghana's legend, Asamoah Gyan, has said that he has not yet retired from football and even has more to offer the national team. For the first time in 15 years, the Black Stars headed to the AFCON for the first time without their all-time leading scorer, who has been out of action for a while after returning to pay in the Ghana Premier League.
On the other hand, the Black Stars had their worst performance in the AFCON, losing to Morocco, drawing with Gabon, and losing to the Comoros again. Asamoah Gyan confirmed his availability to play for the Ghana national team in an interview on Supersports on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He believes he has a lot to offer and can contribute to the national team in terms of goals and experience, but that he must return to shape by hitting the gym and training hard.
"I haven't retired yet," Gyan responded when asked if he had retired. If I need to play, I need to lose weight and be active before and after each training session, and I'll be OK. Gyan made his AFCON debut for the Black Stars in 2008, when Ghana hosted the tournament.
