The Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Abeiku Yanka, has confirmed that scores of people lost their live in Apiate near Begoso in the Western Region of Ghana following an explosion on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
Speaking to TV 3, he confirmed that many people have lost their lives in the tragic incident.
An eye witness also disclosed that, human parts were scattered all over and buildings also demolished following the explosion.
“It is as if we are in a war torn country,” he said.
Information available online indicates that an "aboboya" collided with tanker carrying fuel, hence, the explosion.
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, while commiserating with the residents in a Facebook post said, "The Police, Armed Forces and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are co-ordinating efforts to contain the situation, and I have also instructed NADMO to see to it that rapid relief is brought to residents of the town."
The Ghana Police Service also described the explosion as a "huge explosion."
