Cristiano Ronaldo's influence has been praised by an ex-Manchester United player.

Louis Saha has defended Cristiano Ronaldo, a former Manchester United teammate, and his influence on Ralf Rangnick's group. If the current Red Devils' crop wants to succeed this season, Saha believes they must follow Ronaldo's lead and make the most of his time at the club.

The 36-year-old returned to Old Trafford in the summer but has been let down by United's terrible start to the season.

Despite being considered as easy Champions League qualifiers, Rangnick's side is now sixth in the Premier League.

Saha knows what it's like to be a part of a team that wins trophies, having won the Champions League with United in 2008.

And he believes that Ronaldo's successes in his career give him the authority to lead, and that United players must follow his lead if they are to win silverware this season.

He explained to Genting Casino: "Cristiano Ronaldo, more than any other player, has the right to share his thoughts in the changing room.

"Many of these young athletes have yet to carve out a name for themselves in the sport. They haven't presented any evidence. They may have won a few international caps, but what have they actually achieved?

"If you can't take criticism as a player, that's unusual, because he's only saying it to help players better.

"He's there to win trophies, and he understands how to achieve it, so the players must pay attention to him.

"Yes, players from United should be intimidated, but for the proper reasons. It's not a bad thing. Of course, it's as if you don't respect your god if he doesn't intimidate you.

"I'm not suggesting that the players regard him as a deity, but he will go down in history as one of the greatest players the world has ever seen. It's not normal if the players don't respect what he says."

As United face the last third of the 2021/22 season, Saha has asked his teammates to'shut up' and follow Ronaldo's lead.

"They should be paying attention. Because he has been successful throughout his career, they should be taking in every piece of advice he gives. To improve, the players must make sacrifices "Saha went on to say.

"They should be like," says the author.

Hang on a minute – let me try this for six months. I'll attempt to keep up with him. If I'm exhausted after 60 minutes, I'll be ready to play seventy minutes the following week.

"'Do we want to be a winner like him?' these United players must ask themselves.

"If so, they need to listen to him, they need to be as dedicated as him in training, they need to focus on improving week on week. They must be humble, work hard, and keep their mouths quiet."
