Over the years, the Spanish La Liga has seen the development of great midfielders who have brightened up and dominated the scene, not necessarily because of their goal-scoring records, but because of their incredible ability to manage the midfield with the ball at their feet.
Andres Iniesta of Barcelona and Luka Modric of Real Madrid are two of such Legendary Midfielders. Due to their quality and achievements for their respective teams, they are perhaps two of the finest midfielders to have played in La Liga.
There have been debates on who of these two legendary midfielders is the superior player, with football fans split in their beliefs. We'll look at their stats and accomplishments to see who was the superior player.
Andres Iniesta appeared in 674 games for Barcelona, scoring 57 goals and assisting on 138. With Barca, he won an incredible 35 trophies, including nine La Liga crowns and four UCL triumphs. Iniesta has also been named Uefa Player of the Year and scored the game-winning goal in Spain's first ever World Cup. Iniesta, 37, is still active and currently plays in the Japanese Super League for Vissel Kobe.
Luka Modric has made 412 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 28 goals and assisting on 66 occasions. He has 17 trophies to his credit, including four UCL wins and two La Liga triumphs. The Croatian midfielder has an incredible personal record of accomplishments, including winning the Ballon D'Or in 2018 and reaching the World Cup final in the same year. Modric, 36, is still playing for Real Madrid and has not left the club.
With both Iniesta and Modric having had a lot of success in their respective careers, it's difficult to say who is the superior player based on these criteria.
