The Atletico Madrid striker's contract with the Spanish champions expires in June, and he is reportedly considering a sensational move to Aston Villa following an alleged offer from the Premier League club.
Villa manager Steven Gerrard has already signed one of his former Liverpool teammates this month, with Philippe Coutinho joining on loan from Barcelona with a £33 million buyout option.
However, according to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, the ex-Rangers manager has now held talks with Uruguay striker Luis Suarez about a move to Villa Park, following an approach for the Atletico Madrid star.
Aston Villa do not intend to make a sensational January move for Luis Suarez.
Despite recent reports in Spain claiming the Uruguayan forward is "focused" on reuniting with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, who is now in charge of Villa.
Suarez, 34, has turned down offers from Brazilian clubs Palmeiras, Corinthians, and Atletico Mineiro, preferring to return to the Premier League and play for Gerrard.
The Liverpool legend is also said to have turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia, despite having less than six months left on his contract with Atletico Madrid.
That's not to say Villa won't try to sign Suarez when his contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer.
But Gerrard, 41, already has a plethora of attacking options, including strikers Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins, as well as Emiliano Buendia and - as of last week, and at least until the end of the season - Philippe Coutinho.
Gerrard persuaded his former Liverpool teammate to join on loan from Barcelona for the rest of the season, and he made an immediate impact with a stunning debut against Manchester United on Saturday.
Coutinho came off the bench to set up Jacob Ramsey's goal and then equalize as Villa fought back to draw 2-2 with the Red Devils.
Gerrard clearly has no reservations about managing former teammates, so he may believe the opportunity to work with Suarez ahead of next season is too good to pass up.
In 2015, the former England captain called the mercurial frontman "probably the best I have played with."
Suarez won four La Liga titles and the Champions League during his time at Barcelona before leaving for Atletico Madrid on a free transfer in 2020.
