Barcelona is out of the Uefa Champions League in the first round, has been knocked out of the Spanish Super Cup by arch rival Real Madrid, is 17 points behind the league leaders, and has been ousted from the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona is always striving to be the greatest on and off the field, setting an example for the rest of the football world.
This "New" Barcelona, led by Laporta and Xavi, is focused on developing a team from the ground up, and while losing isn't a major issue for them right now, possession is.
Possession does not add a point at the end of a game, but that is the Barca way, right? It's more than just a club.
When asked about the loss to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, everyone of the players, including the coach, said they had more possession and Madrid played on the counter-attack, making them better despite the loss.
In his post-match press conference in Bilbao, Xavi noted that losing two titles in a matter of days was difficult, but that the most important thing was to recover mentally, and that they were on the right route.
After six years in Qatar – four as a player and two as a head coach – the Barcelona manager returned to take over from Ronald Koeman, who had been in command for about 15 months before being ousted.
And there was no better indication of how ecstatic Barca fans were today than the 25,000 fans who had gathered at Camp Nou to greet him.
One of his first remarks as a coach was that he was prepared and that Barca was in his DNA, and that the club needed to recover as quickly as as in difficult situations in order to win trophies.
The fans are confident in Xavi's ability to achieve, but they will not tolerate failure if it means witnessing their favorite club celebrate defeat.
Barca's winning attitude is in their DNA, so rebuilding and starting over is not something the Camp Nou faithful will be ready to wait for.
Barca couldn't be content with a loss because they have so many excellent players who can compete for titles.
