Arsenal are planning to offer a new contract to their manager before the end of the season in order to keep him from entering the final year of his contract.

Arteta has been a hit with club officials since he took over for Unai Emery two years ago, and the club is eager to keep him despite Arsenal finishing eighth in the Premier League in both of his seasons in charge.

Arsenal are confident that they are making significant progress under Arteta, who is building his team around and benching high-earning older stars such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

This season, Arsenal are expected to offer manager Mikel Arteta a new two-year contract.

The Spaniard's contract expires at the end of the season, but Arsenal wants to keep him.

Arteta's off-field leadership has impressed Emirates executives, with Arteta playing a key role in convincing players to take temporary pay cuts at the start of the pandemic and vehemently defending the club's reputation during the Covid call-offs controversy.

Arsenal are also aware that Arteta's contract expires in the summer of 2023, which coincides with Pep Guardiola's planned departure date from Manchester City, and that continued improvement for Arsenal could see him emerge as a successor.

The 39-year-old is content at Arsenal and is looking forward to the talks. Any extension would result in an increase in his £5 million salary, with Arsenal looking to commit Arteta to a new contract.
