A female police officer, Constable Regina Angenu, was attacked and gunned down by some unidentified assassins in Bawku on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
The victim who was assigned to the Paga Police Station in the Upper East Region reportedly paid a visit to a colleague constable in Bawku where she met her sudden death.
According to the police, she was on her way to her colleague's barracks when the tragic incident occurred.
“At about 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022, the deceased, PW/Constable Regina Angenu of Paga Police Station paid a visit to Const. Erasmus Enkson of Bawku Division MTTU,” the police said in a statement.
Some unknown gunmen attacked them on their way to the police barracks, according to the police, leading to the death of Constable Regina.
Reports indicated that the police officer was shot in the groin.
Regina passed away at the Presbyterian Mission Hospital while receiving medical treatment.
Regina's body was transported to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
There were sporadic gunshots in Bawku on Sunday following the death of a Moshie man called Taiban Kundiima.
Taiban, together with some friends, was shot at their workplace near a GOIL filling station.
This instigated sporadic gunshots in the Bawku township and its environs leading to the ban of motorbikes in the municipality.
