Boubacar Kamara of Marseille is a target for Manchester United.
With eye-catching displays for Jorge Sampaoli's squad, the 22-year-old has risen to prominence quickly this season.
However, his future with the French national team has recently been called into question. Kamara's contract expires at the end of the season, and he has been courted by a number of big clubs.
According to Italian news agency Gazzetta dello Sport, the Red Devils are dominating the fight for his signature.
The Frenchman is free to arrange a pre-contract deal with other teams now that he is in the final six months of his contract. Manchester United, on the other hand, is hoping to sign him for a reduced fee before the end of the winter transfer season. With some of its players on the cusp of leaving, Ralf Rangnick's side is trying to improve their midfield options.
In the summer, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are expected to go, while Kamara's arrival would allow Rangnick to use him as a replacement for Scott McTominay and Fred.
The deal of Anthony Martial to Sevilla has also been announced, but it has opened the door for a possible Manchester United signing by the end of the month. According to the Daily Mail, the Manchester club has spoken to Kamara's representative about the potential of reaching an agreement by the end of next week.
Marseille are reportedly seeking £10 million for the midfielder, with Premier League clubs Leeds United and Newcastle United also keen, according to the report.
Manchester United will have to compete for Kamara, who is in high demand on the transfer market.
Kamara rose through the ranks of Marseille's junior team before breaking into the senior team in 2016 and gradually established himself in the starting XI.
So far, he's made 146 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting on another five.
The midfielder was also a member of their 2018 Europa League final squad, but he was only utilised as a substitute.
He has, however, been able to translate his club's success to the international scene, having represented France at every youth level from U17s to U21s. Kamara is now hoping to be called up to Didider Deschamps' national team and maybe a spot in his World Cup roster.
His remarkable ascent has piqued the interest of elite clubs, including El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Jose Mourinho's AS Roma. West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League are ready to battle with Manchester United for his signature.
