Chelsea and Sevilla defender Jules Kounde are allegedly close to agreeing on a deal.
The Blues have made a €60 million offer to the La Liga giants in order to bring Kounde to Stamford Bridge, according to TeamTalk (via Football Talk). While a move during the current transfer window is unlikely, the Frenchman might join Thomas Tuchel's team in the summer.
By the end of the season, the Premier League giants might be in serious defensive trouble. Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta's contracts are all set to expire this summer. While Rudiger has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Barcelona has shown interest in Azpilicueta and Christensen.
Tuchel would suffer a major setback if all three defenders were to depart. Reinforcements will undoubtedly be required by the German tactician. Chelsea will still be able to rely on Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr, but they will want to bolster their roster with quality additions. Marquinhos has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent months, but he looks poised to stay at Paris Saint-Germain for the time being. They are also said to be interested in Bayern Munich's Niklas Sule, who is set to become a free agent this summer.
Chelsea had previously been unsuccessful in luring Jules Kounde away from Sevilla.
Chelsea had been connected with Kounde for the majority of last summer's transfer window. Close to the end of August, they even put in a bid of roughly €55 million.
Sevilla, on the other hand, turned down the offer, insisting on a €70 million offer. One reason for their rejection of Chelsea's offer was financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Blues' bid also came too late in the window for Sevilla to sign a replacement. As a result, Kounde has remained with Julen Lopetegui's team and has played a significant role for them. This season, the 23-year-old has made 23 appearances in all competitions, helping Sevilla to second place in La Liga.
They are only four points behind league leaders Real Madrid, but they were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. In addition, Lopetegui's team was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the group stages and relegated to the UEFA Europa League.
