PSG’S LIONEL MESSI HAS THE 2ND WORST CONVERSION RATE IN EUROPE’S TOP FIVE LEAGUE

One particularly devastating statistic has highlighted Lionel Messi's poor start with PSG.

In Europe's top five divisions, the Argentine has the second-worst shots-to-goals ratio of any player.

Despite having tried 44 attempts since joining the club, Messi has only scored once for Mauricio Pochettino's side in Ligue 1.

Only Manchester City's Joao Cancelo has a worse record, with only one goal from 46 shots in the Premier League this season.

After sustaining an injury at the start of the season, Messi battled to regain full fitness, but he is again fully fit. He has six assists in the domestic league, but his goal-scoring form in the Champions League has been significantly better, with five goals in five games.

With his meagre one-goal return a huge surprise, the former Barcelona star will no doubt be hoping for a turnaround in form for the league leaders.

In the 4-0 triumph over Reims on Sunday night, he managed to provide an assist, but there is concern in Paris that everything is not well.

Messi and his family are said to have struggled to settle in Paris, and there's a chance that any off-the-field distractions are to blame for his poor play. The 34-year-old went to Spain on Monday for Xavi's birthday celebrations on Tuesday night, but declined to comment on a potential return to the Nou Camp.
