According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Barcelona has a verbal deal with AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie for a summer transfer.
Kessie's AC Milan contract is coming to an end in the next six months. The 25-year-old midfielder is free to sign a pre-contract with any overseas club and leave in the summer.
Barcelona are looking to sign Kessie on a free transfer, according to the aforementioned source, and have a verbal understanding with the midfielder. However, no official agreement has yet been reached with either the player or the team. A free transfer for a highly rated central midfielder would be a fantastic move for the Blaugrana. They are now in financial difficulties and will have to rely on free transfers and loans to bolster their team.
Xavi Hernandez has a wealth of young midfielders in his roster, including Nico Gonzalez, Pedri, and Gavi, among others. However, Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong may suffer as a result of Kessie's impending arrival.
For the Bluagrana, Busquets has been a fantastic player. The 33-year-old midfielder has over 650 matches under his belt for the club. Since his debut in 2008, he has been a vital member of the team. Despite his impressive statistics, Barcelona will need to replace the Spaniard with another capable defensive midfielder as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou. The Dutchman has been linked with Bayern Munich and Chelsea, two of Europe's top clubs. De Jong's current transfer value is €70 million, thus selling him would bring in a lot of money for the Blaugrana. Franck Kessie, on the other hand, has had a fantastic career with AC Milan. In 205 games with the Rossoneri, the Ivorian midfielder has 35 goals and 16 assists across all competitions.
In La Liga, Barcelona defeated Deportivo Alaves in an unimpressive victory.
Barcelona beat Deportivo Alaves 1-0 in La Liga at the weekend, but it was an uninspired victory. Xavi's team had to wait until the 87th minute for a goal, which was scored by De Jong.
Barcelona needed the win to keep their hopes of finishing in the top four in La Liga alive. They are currently in fifth place in the standings, with 35 points earned from 21 games. They are only a point behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, whom they will face on February 6th.
