Tottenham Hotspur should pursue Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek, according to former Scottish striker Ally McCoist.

Since Christian Eriksen's transfer to Inter Milan in 2020, the Lilywhites have lacked a creative playmaker in their lineup.

Spurs could try to sign the aforementioned Dutchman this month, as he is on the verge of leaving the club.

Van de Beek, who cost £40 million to Ajax, arrived at Old Trafford in September 2020 with a strong reputation.

However, the midfielder has made only 50 appearances in all competitions since then, starting only 15 of them. Despite having a relatively decent health record, he has struggled to break into Manchester United's first squad. The Dutchman has likewise been unable to replicate his success in Amsterdam.

The 24-year-contract old's with the club continues through 2025, but given his little playing time, he's unlikely to stay beyond this season.

The competition to sign the Dutchman is currently being led by Crystal Palace, but McCoist has pushed Tottenham to join the race.

Former Rangers forward, speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, said:

‘’In terms of Spurs, I still don't believe they've replaced Eriksen; I believe that's the type of player they require." Van van Beek may have done enough at United to pique Spurs' interest, but I'm not convinced. But he needs to get out there and play alongside players like [Jesse] Lingard and Dele Alli. Van de Beek does not appear to be well-liked."

Palace are looking for a loan for a Manchester United player.

If a reasonable offer is made, Manchester United is willing to loan Van de Beek out. However, it is believed that they will only consider a direct loan until the season's finish.

The Dutchman is looking for regular game time, something Palace is willing to provide at Selhurst Park.

Patrick Vieira, the Eagles' head coach, is pleased with the team he has at his disposal. However, he believes he is still missing one or two experienced European players who may help the squad improve even more. This month, they're looking to add someone to the side, and Van de Beek is on their list. The player is aiming to make the Netherlands' World Cup roster later this year, and in order to do so, he needs to play regularly.
