Despite his slow start at Paris Saint-Germain, Karim Benzema believes those who criticize Lionel Messi 'know nothing about football.'
In the summer, the Argentine superstar left Barcelona for PSG, ending his glittering spell at Camp Nou.
But Messi has yet to live up to his astronomically high standards in Paris, and his performances for Mauricio Pochettino's side have been criticized.
This season, the 34-year-old has only scored once in 11 Ligue 1 games, but he has five goals in five Champions League games.
Real Madrid striker Benzema, on the other hand, believes Messi is simply going through a 'period of adaptation' at PSG.
'How can he fail?' 'It's just a period of adjustment because he's not scoring many goals,' Benzema told TF1.
'But look at what he does on the field.' 'In any case, you can't criticize a player like that; in fact, whoever criticizes Messi knows nothing about football!'
Messi recently revealed to Jamie Carragher that he sent him a private message after being dissatisfied with the Liverpool legend's comments about his move to PSG.
'He [Messi] is not happy with me at all,' Carragher said, according to Sky Sports.
'I had a go at [Cristiano] Ronaldo early in the season,' he said “I didn’t think it was a great signing for United”
‘And, as I previously stated, I did not believe Messi was a good signing for PSG.
'It was Monday Night Football, and I received a private message on Instagram.' I won't show private messages from the man himself, but he basically called me a donkey!'
