It's been seventeen (17) days since the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) embarked on its industrial strike and this has led to a couple of Ghanaian social media users resorting to Twitter to express their feelings.
Lots of the tweets urge the government to address the concerns of UTAG so that academics will resume fully for public university students.
Below are a few reactions on the impasse between UTAG and government:

"The Strike is a simple proposal that UTAG has made, the government is aware that our strike is legitimate and important but it seems the government don't want to listen to us "

Apparently, government isn't ready to listen to UTAG as the NLC drags UTAG to court. UTAG also isn't ready to back down any time sooner. Universities will eventually close down at the end of the week.

Those saying #UTAG is demanding too much, have you asked about the cost of doing a Ph.D. in Ghana and beyond? And have you asked how much a first-degree holder at COCOBOD is taking as salary?

All Public Universities in Ghana shall be forced to close down should the #UTAG strike continues to Monday, 31st January 2022. Ghana might experience what happened in 1995 again. Pray for the motherland.

Would it be for an indefinite time if school should be closed down? As a KNUST student, it clearly reminds me of the event that happened in October 2018, it’s my prayer that the strike action ends soon so that academic activities begin for semester one #UTAG

Student leaders should come together in admonishing both parties to reach a compromise. If not, the times ahead will indeed be disturbing and detrimental! This #utag strike must be resolved.

Students have already missed a yr staying in the house with no academic work since the Covid outbreak n just as when school is back gov is reluctant to provide good working conditions to lecturers.I've never seen a country where leaders don't care about education like Gh.

UTAG embarked on an industrial strike on Monday, January 10 to demand better service conditions.
UTAG, among several concerns raised, wants government to reconsider the amount of money to be paid annually to public university lecturers as research allowance.
According to UTAG, the GHS 15,000 allotted to lecturers for research is not enough.
Meanwhile, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has filed a lawsuit against UTAG over its refusal to call off its strike against a directive given.
UTAG is set to appear before the court on February 3, 2022.
