Liverpool have set a fee of £37.5 million plus £12.5 million in add-ons for Luis Diaz from Porto, beating Manchester United and Tottenham to his signature.
With a deal for emerging talent Luis Diaz, Liverpool is on the verge of pulling off a sensational late transfer window coup.
A sum of roughly £37.5 million is said to be on the table with his club Porto, with a further £12.5 million in performance-related bonuses.
The Merseyside club has now jumped ahead of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the 25-year-old, who is seen as a goalscoring wide player in the mold of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
After starring for his country Colombia at the Copa America last summer, where he finished as joint top scorer with Lionel Messi, the winger has emerged as one of the hottest properties in world football.
Diaz drew the attention of Europe's top clubs when he scored a spectacular 25-yard winner in the 94th minute to give his country a third-place play-off victory over Peru.
The forward's contract included a £67 million release clause, but Porto were left cash-strapped after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, and agreed to accept a much lower offer.
According to reports in Portugal, the club received higher bids from other clubs, but Diaz was adamant that he only wanted to go to Liverpool, which resulted in the lower fee.
With the Reds' famous front three all in contract talks, the winger is seen as a perfect fit for the team's forward line and a long-term option.
The Colombia international is thought to be a good fit for Liverpool's attacking style.
