Ken Offori-Atta, Minister responsible for Finance has reduced the electronic transactions levy (e-levy) from the initial 1.75% to 1.5% after a meeting with the leadership of the minority group of Ghana's Parliament.

As part of stakeholder consultations on the passage of the e-levy bill, the leadership of the minority again met with the Finance Minister after a deadlock with both groups maintaining their grounds for further discussions. However, the minority are still opposed to it, demanding a 0.00% levy on electronic transactions.

The Government of Ghana in the presentation of the 2022 budget proposed an introduction of an electronic transactions levy to rope in more taxes to fund the construction of roads, construction of cyber infrastructure and create jobs through an initiative called YouStart.

A section of Ghanaians have rejected the levy branding it a draconian and insensitive tax policy to deepen the woes of the poor.

Government officials have backed the introduction explaining it will solve most of the problems in the country.
