Do you remember your time in school? Do you remember how it felt to get your report card at the end a term or semester? Personally, I believe some remarks just put some students off of what they can actually do best and vice versa.
As teachers, we are given the task or responsibility to make sure knowledge is imparted to all who seeks. There is no doubt teachers contribute 70% to a child's upbringing but we sometimes do certain things or say certain things which affects their activeness.
This article explains some remarks seen in most report cards and their impact on the lives of students. There are many remarks but this article talks about these major three ( excellent, failed, and you can do better).
1. EXCELLENT is a very powerful remarks and most appreciated by many. It it not easy to attain that remark from a teacher as one needs to work extremely hard for it. This remark as powerful as it is, somehow affect students negatively. A student can easily slip off of being the brightest student to being an average. They might feel they are already there and might stop doing the things which brought the bright light in the first place. This remark sometimes get into the minds of students and ends up bringing them down.
2. FAILED: This a remark mostly seen in most report cards and has huge negative effects both emotionally and mentally on the life of a student. Student who at the end of a term or semester get such remarks are mostly looked down on by friends which affects their activeness.
3."YOU CAN DO BETTER " Is the only remark that pushes student to do better. It pushes students from their comfort zone and aids them to provide extra." you can do better " is a sentence of encouragement which simply means "I believe in you and your capabilities ". Students should really start to consider " you can do better " for what it really means ( a word of encouragement and not discouragement)
As teachers, we are given the task to make sure knowledge is imparted to all who seeks. So once a student is given admission into school, our job starts. As students, we have the biggest tasks and that is- making sure we always give out our best in everything we do. And finally to our dear parents, a lot depends on u guys. Parents must encourage their children at all times. No matter what the child is going through, the fact that he or she knows you believe in him is all he or she needs.
