SHUTDOWN OF PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IMMINENT AS UTAG STRIKE CONTINUES

The shutdown of public universities may still not be off the table as the lecturers’ strike continues.



Members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) are in their third week of a strike the National Labour Commission has portrayed as illicit.


The lecturers are pushing for superior conditions, requesting entry-level pay rates of more than ¢1200.


Talking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, President of the College Ghana department of the Affiliation, Dr Samuel Nkumbaan said the demands by the lecturers are reasonable.




“It doesn’t see like that [our economy is in inconvenience] once you see at a few of the Christmas beautifications that happened very as of late. So we are able to appreciate the truth that it isn't great.


“In the event that it isn't great what are you advertising? It isn't fair affirm to say blanketly that there's no cash. We are not making any offers,” he said.


He too unveiled that the lecturers feel overlooked and misdirected by their bosses within the circumstance.



On his portion, the Bad habit President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, moreover expressed that lecturers request way better.


He included the knowledge within the nation are not been treated right.


“I think there's adequate avocation for the lecturers striking. I have taken after the baits and I think they have been disrespected.

Mr Bentil advance charged the addresses to demand on what on their demands.

In the mean time, an Accra Tall Court is expected to listen the case brought some time recently it by the National Work Commission against UTAG following Thursday, February 4.


UTAG has settled to continue the strike until their concerns are tended to. But the NLC will have none of that.
