Barcelona have completed the signing of Wolves winger Adama Traore, initially on loan until the end of the season.

The Spain international had been a leading transfer target for Tottenham during the January window but has opted to return to the club where he began his career.

Antonio Conte had been hoping to make the 26-year-old his first signing as Spurs boss with a view to converting him to play right-wing-back in his back-three system and talks had been progressing until the early part of this week, when Barcelona entered the fray.

The Catalan giants have an option make the deal permanent in the summer for a fee of around £30million.

Traore joins Barcelona as an eight-year-old and came through the club’s famed La Masia academy, making his first-team debut as a teenager before moving to England with Aston Villa.

A statement confirming the move from Wolves’ technical director, Scott Sellars, said: “Adama has always acted with the utmost professionalism, however it is no secret that we have not been able to agree a new contract with him, despite protracted negotiations, and his desire at the moment is to play football elsewhere.

“Everyone knows Barcelona is a city, and club, very close to Adama’s heart, so it is a dream move for him. We have also agreed a very healthy option in the deal should Barcelona wish to make the move permanent this summer.

“We wish Adama the best of luck in Spain, and hope that he plays regularly, has great success and shows everyone what he is capable of.”
