Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency and Chief whip of the minority group has made strong allegations against a powerful King in Ghana.
Speaking to the current architecture of Parliament in a Joy News documentary tited "A hung Parliament, a curse or a blessing?", the former youth and sports minister narrated incidents that lead to the election of Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker.
Mr. Muntaka explained that his side almost won the support of the Independent Member of Parliament for Fomena by convincing him and his wife to do business with the NDC, but a powerful King advised him not to heed my plea but relegate everything that happened prior to the elections to the background.
"I told Rt. Hon. Mike Ocquaye that if my party fails to present a candidate for the Speakership position, he has my full support. My party didn't present a candidate until the last days. The issue here is there was no dialogue after the 2020 general elections between both parties on what to do next in Parliament", he said.
The Asawase MP revealed that going into the election of the Speaker, he had spoken to most of the NPP MPs to vote for him but only had five who promised to vote for Alban Bagbin.
"I knew the work I had done so Bagbin's victory was another a surprise for me. All we needed to do as a minority group was to go according to our strategy".
Ghana's current Parliamentary architecture has been described as hung Parliament with both sides having the same number of MPs and one independent candidate.
