An American economist, Dr. Sa-ad Iddrisu, urges the government against imposing the E-levy on Ghanaians.
Another reason for Africa's high frequency of coups, according to Dr. Iddrisu, is African governments' incapacity to address citizens' problems.
According to the economist on Radio Tamale's political take program, there have been four coups in Africa since 2020.
"As a government, you're elected to offer what the people want, not necessarily have your way," he said.
The E-Levy, according to Dr. Iddrisu, will compound Ghanaians' issues.
The public does not want the E-levy, according to the current situation in parliament, but the government wants to proceed with their numbers in parliament, including the independent candidate. Some of these problems require government intervention.
“You are elected to government to provide what the people want, not to get your way all the time, because it creates unneeded tensions that might lead to a coup”, he remarked.
