Despite being one of the most successful managers of all time, UEFA has reportedly requested Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti to retake his coaching exams. The 62-year-coaching old's badges expired on December 31, 2021, according to Corriere Dello Sport (via TalkSPORT).
Carlo Ancelotti is one of contemporary football's most decorated managers. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan are among the clubs he has managed in Europe. In his long career, the strategist has won multiple trophies, including a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and three Champions League titles. In Germany, France, and Italy, he has also won league titles. In his 30-year career, the Italian has won a total of 21 trophies. Despite Ancelotti's impressive resume, UEFA has reportedly written him a letter suggesting that he must pass an exam in order to continue managing Real Madrid. However, since the start of the year, the former AC Milan and Chelsea manager has taken command of the La Liga side seven times.
The Spanish Football Federation has now interfered in the case, according to the aforementioned source. The Spanish FA has responded to UEFA, stating that an exam for a seasoned coach such as Carlo Ancelotti is not the best option.
How has Real Madrid fared this season under Carlo Ancelotti?
Carlo Ancelotti returned to the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season for a second time after managing Everton in the Premier League. During his first term as Real Madrid manager, the veteran tactician was fairly successful. The club won their tenth European Cup, dubbed "La Decima," under his leadership.
His second term at Real Madrid is off to a good start as well. Los Blancos are now in first place in La Liga, having collected 50 points from 22 games. They are now four points ahead of Sevilla in second place. On the 3rd of February, Real Madrid will face Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
In the UEFA Champions League, Los Blancos are also up against it. In the Round of 16, Ancelotti's team will face French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain.
The opening leg of the tie will take place in Paris on February 15th. The second leg will take place on March 9th in Madrid.
