Dr.Tony Aubynn, a member of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) Executive Committee, has claimed that Chris Hughton has yet to indicate interest in taking over as coach of the Black Stars.
The former Newcastle United manager has spent the previous several days in Ghana, where he is expected to succeed Milovan Rajevac, who was fired after a terrible AFCON campaign.
Dr. Aubynn, however, stated on Joy News' PM Express that his committee has yet to receive any official notification regarding Hughton.
"Chris [Hughton's] pedigree is undeniable. I haven't seen anything on Chris Hughton at the FA yet. There have been no meetings or discussions concerning him, but the media is the source. We deal with what is placed before us as part of the FA's council, and then we take a look at it. We haven't seen any indication of Hughton's interest in the Black Stars as far as I'm concerned."
Hughton might still coach the Black Stars, according to the former GFA presidential candidate, who also believes Otto Addo is competent of doing so.
"This isn't to say Hughton won't be interested in the job or that he won't be the national team's head coach; it's not impossible." But for the time being, the only source of information we have is Otto Addo, who is close to the players and can better assist us in dealing with the challenge ahead of us."
Kurt Okraku, the GFA president, is currently in Germany, where he is in talks with Otto Addo about becoming Ghana's next coach.
A high-ranking government official is reportedly advocating for Hughton to be named Ghana's next coach, with the 63-year-old appearing to be the government's favored candidate, according to Joy Sports.
"Chris Hughton is a coach who understands how to build with poor resources," majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated on Angel FM. Because our materials aren't very good, we need Chris to weld. Otto Addo of Dortmund is only a backup coach."
