We don't want to count our chickens before they hatch, but if Chelsea reach the Club World Cup final in a fortnight, they will have to play through the UK's Saturday football blackout.
To protect attendance at lower league teams, no live football can be broadcast between 2.45 and 5.15 p.m. on Saturday. This has been observed religiously for years, but the rule bending that followed the initial Covid lockdowns appears to have opened the door for other exceptions.
If they make the final, the Blues will play on Channel 4 on Saturday, February 12th, at 4.30 p.m. UK time, following their semi-final victory.
The worst-case scenario is that we lose the semi, because we'd still have to play in the third/4th place playoff, exhausting our players just as they'd gotten a break. Whatever happens, you'll be able to watch it live, regardless of the timing.
Burstow, a young striker, has signed.
Mason Burstow has joined us on loan from Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
Burstow joined Charlton as a second-year scholar in October 2020 from non-league Welling United, and he made his senior debut earlier this season in the EFL Trophy against Crawley Town. Coming off the bench late in the game, the forward scored with his first touch in professional football, a brilliant stooping header just two minutes after his introduction.
It took him twice as long to score on his FA Cup debut, a low drive into the bottom corner four minutes after entering the fray against Havant & Waterlooville, with a League One debut following a fortnight later. This season, he has made 14 appearances and scored six goals for the Addicks.
Burstow will continue his development on loan with Johnnie Jackson's side, who are currently 14th in League One.
