After almost a decade of the unfortunate passing of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, John Dramani Mahama has opened up on events leading to his death.
Speaking at the launch of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, the former Vice President under the Mills era recounted that his Boss through the Chief of Staff informed him to personally represent him at the Brand Ghana event which was taking place at the Conference center because he had to travel.
"Upon my return to the Castle, which was the seat of government, I informed the President through the Chief of Staff that I had a meeting with him before his travel and went to my office to have a meeting with a former President.
Minutes later, a call came through that the President has been rushed to the 37 military hospital and so I ended the meeting with the former President to join my Boss at the hospital only to be told of his demise.
I have not seen dark clouds cover my life like the 24th July, 2012 all my personal and political life. I was prepared for anything but not the death of Prof.
After the administration of the Presidential oath, I sat in the chair of Vice President until the noise by the MPs that prompted me that I had taken the Presidential oath", he recounted this sorrowfully.
A group of academics, family, lawyers, politicians have come together to set-up the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage to honour the late President who died in office.
