Chelsea did not provide Thomas Tuchel with any new players during the January transfer window, but the European champions are already looking ahead to the summer with a lot of work to do before then.

Chelsea are interested in a number of players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the current season, allowing them to discuss terms for a pre-contract deal that would see them join the club on July 1.

According to the Express, one of those players is Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele. By turning down two clubs on transfer deadline day, the Frenchman enraged Joan Laporta and the Catalan club, and he's now likely to leave the Camp Nou for nothing in the summer. On Tuesday, Laporta remarked, "I am quite shocked that he did not accept a proposition from an English team." "He was adamant about not doing it." It didn't make sense because it was harmful to both him and the club. He would have allowed us to operate in the market with greater peace and quiet.

"We believe Dembele has already signed a contract with another club, as they have hinted to us." What we'll do is defend the club's interests."

reinforcements on the defensive

However, Dembele isn't the only player the Blues are hoping to sign this summer. They could look to Germany for reinforcements in the form of Niklas Sule and Matthias Ginter, the latter of whom was heavily linked with Inter in early January.

Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan is another name on their wishlist, with defence clearly being an area they want to improve, especially with contracts expiring in their own backline this summer.
