Despite his talent, Ian Rush believes Jurgen Klopp should think twice about signing Erling Haaland to Liverpool.
And Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes he will go on to become one of the game's great strikers.
"Erling Haaland is without a doubt one of the best players in the world – I don't think there's any doubt about that," Rush said, "so it's no surprise to see Liverpool linked with such a top player."
This week has seen a lot of speculation about Haaland's future, with Liverpool being one of several clubs mentioned as a possible destination this summer.
"He would undoubtedly improve Liverpool, and his youth would appeal to the owners."
He also has a release clause, so he wouldn't be that expensive in today's market, but it all depends on what he wants for himself.
"I'm sure he's interested in the Premier League because it's the best league in the world, but what I'll say is that he's a very different type of player than what Liverpool typically looks for."
In the Premier League, Rush sees Haaland as a target man striker, a true number 9 who prefers to play with his back to goal and with the ball running through him centrally.
Although he believes Haaland is a generational talent, the Liverpool legend questions whether he is the type of player Klopp would want in his team.
Rush stated: "He's a big striker and a real focal point up front, so if he comes to Liverpool, it could mean Klopp plans to change up the style a little." But he likes his teams to play as a unit, and you'd want to build a team around Haaland, so I'm not sure how much truth there is in the rumors." He is, however, world class, so it's easy to see why any team would be interested in signing him."
According to Rush, all of the talk surrounding Liverpool's transfer business appears to be focused on securing Mohamed Salah to a long-term contract.
