The Labour Division of the Accra Circuit Court has directed the National Labour Commission (NDC) and members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to consider resolving their impasse outside court.
The NLC had filed a lawsuit against UTAG over its failure to call off an industrial strike it declared on Monday, January 10, 2022, against the NLC's directive.
The NLC declared the strike as illegal and directed the lecturers to return to the classrooms while negotiations continued.
However, UTAG failed to adhere to the directive and the NLC dragged the former to the Labour Division of the Accra Circuit Court to enforce its directive.
The two parties were supposed to appear before the court today, Thursday, February 3 but the Judge, Frank Rockson Aboadwe told the lawyers for both parties in a meeting he had with them privately, to consider resolving their misunderstanding outside court.
UTAG and NLC are expected to come back to the court on February 10 to conclude matters.
Counsel for UTAG, Kwesi Keli- Delataa, said lawyers for both parties have met today with the hope of debating legally for or against the court's ruling but the Judge chose to invite them to his chamber and urged them to resolve their differences outside court.
“When we went to the chambers the judge decided that we should take another bite at an opportunity to try to settle out of court, so that is what took place today," he said.
They are to appear before the court on February 10 to finalize matters.
