MASON Greenwood's alleged rape victim has broken her silence to express gratitude for everyone's "support" following the Manchester United star's release on bail.
The student, 18, stated that the past week has been "difficult" for her and that she will not make any further statements pending the outcome of the police investigation.
Greenwood, a 20-year-old striker, was arrested on suspicion of rape and GBH on Sunday.
He was questioned by police for three nights after being re-arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threatening to kill.
"I'm grateful to everyone who has sent messages of support and encouragement – thank you," his alleged victim said last night on Instagram. The last few days have been extremely trying, and I'm taking a break from social media while the police conduct their investigations."
On Wednesday, Greenwood was released on bail pending further investigation, but she has not been seen since.
After being released on bail, he appears to have increased security at his luxury mansion in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.
Two security guards were seen outside the house, and an expert was also seen arriving to install a £350 home security system.
Greenwood was suspended indefinitely by United after the allegations were made public on social media.
When asked if the incident had been "distracting," he suggested that the players had been discussing it.
"We had a good normal week of training with five training sessions including today's training, obviously it was a topic within the team but they're human beings and Mason was part of the group before we had our break," the German continued.
It was a good training week; we were able to train under normal conditions, and we are looking forward to the game tomorrow."
Rangnick, who took over as manager of the Premier League club last year, also hinted that after Greenwood's arrest, United would be forced to hold showdown squad talks.
