On Saturday night, Anthony Martial made his first start for Sevilla in a 0-0 tie with Osasuna.

While his Manchester United debut in 2015 was memorable, his Sevilla debut was not so much.

The Frenchman only lasted 77 minutes before being replaced, and he failed to make an impact.

Martial was making his first start since November, and only his third appearance overall since United's 2-0 victory over Villarreal.

The loanee from Manchester United failed to take a single shot on target or create an opportunity.

It wasn't the kind of debut Sevilla had been touting on social media all week.

The manager discusses the lackluster debut.

Julen Lopetegui, Martial's manager, remarked about the forward's debut and noted that the former Monaco star may require some time to adjust.

"Of course, Martial must offer us much more, he must adapt and integrate the dynamics of the club, he has played little this year," Lopetegui told AS. But I'm confident he'll be a part of that dynamic."

Ivan Rakitic, a midfielder for Sevilla, missed a penalty in the tie, and the team dropped two points. Real Madrid's victory this weekend would widen the lead at the top to six points, up from four points heading into the weekend.

After losing his position in France's squad last November, Martial is looking to get back on track and earn his way back into the team.

This season, he had only one goal for United, and in 2020/21, he had only seven goals.

Sevilla and Martial will play Elche on Friday night before beginning their Europa League campaign against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

It will take time for Martial to regain his strength. It was a great step forward just to start a game. Since being hurt for France last March, he hasn't played much.

Hopefully, a run of games at Sevilla will help him restore his sharpness. However, with the Spanish team vying for the crown, they will not be able to wait indefinitely.

Lopetegui has stated that he hopes to see progress.
