According to rumours, Lionel Messi has advised Barcelona manager Xavi not to re-sign former adolescent star Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite being snapped up by his current club after failing to make a first team debut at the Nou Camp, Simons, 18, is believed to be keen on securing a return.
Barcelona hasn't been hesitant to re-enter the market for players who have previously worn their uniform, and midfielder Simons may have been one of them.
Any interest from their team appears to have waned after superstar Lionel Messi, a Catalan icon, advised them not to move in for Simons. According to El Nacional, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner believes the young Dutchman has not made enough development.
With Simons' contract in Paris expiring on June 30, his representative, Mino Raiola, is alleged to have notified Barcelona that Simons would be open to rejoining them.
Xavi was contacted after being made aware, but the scathing reports from Messi - Simons' PSG teammate - are likely to put an end to his quest.
During a recent dinner with Xavi to mark the tactician's birthday, it has been alleged that Messi shared his thoughts on the kid. PSG wants to sign Simons to a new deal, despite the fact that he is reportedly keen to reach the top of the game and earn a wage to match his ambitions.
Following these requests, the Ligue 1 team is willing to sell Simons and let him to join a new club, albeit Barcelona is unlikely to be interested.
