Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has signed a contract with Covid-19 ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup journey, according to the official Chelsea website.
The Blues have already clinched a place in the EFL Cup final. They survived their latest FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle thanks to heroics from Marcos Alonso and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The West London club has struggled to maintain consistency in the Premier League over the last few fixtures, and a crowded schedule, combined with a slew of injuries, has added further impediments to their quest for silverware.
The pandemic took its toll on a number of professionals from various industries, and the Premier League suffered greatly as well. While the League appears to be returning to normal operations, the threat of Covid has not gone away. Tuchel has now contracted the deadly virus and may be forced to miss the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup semi-final.
Arno Michels, assistant coach, issued a statement regarding Thomas Tuchel and his current situation ahead of the crucial match. This is the Blues' second trip to the tournament, and they will be hoping to repeat as world club champions.
