Sadio Mane, a Liverpool legend, led Senegal to their first Africa Cup of Nations victory on Sunday evening, scoring the game-winning penalty in a shootout against Egypt.
Following Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations final victory over Egypt on Sunday evening, Sadio Mane joked about leaving Liverpool in the summer.
The forward, who scored the game-winning penalty for Senegal in the shootout, was jokingly asked if he was going to join his international teammate Pape Gueye in Marseille.
Mane is a fan of the French team and responded with a laugh: "Marseille, put in the effort and the money, and I'll come! You must pay the transfer fee, and I will come!"
Liverpool are extremely unlikely to accept an offer for the 29-year-old -from any club - as he remains an important member of Jurgen Klopp's squad.
He has won the Premier League and the Champions League since joining the Reds from Southampton in the summer of 2016. He has also scored 107 goals for the club.
Mane is expected to be part of Liverpool's squad for their match against Leicester at Anfield on Thursday, just four days after inspiring Senegal to their first AFCON title.
Senegal had previously lost the finals in 2002 and 2019. Their current manager, Aliou Cisse, missed the game-winning penalty in a shootout loss to Cameroon 20 years ago.
Mane revealed his love for Marseille in November 2018.
"I used to watch the French championship a lot when I was a kid," the Liverpool legend recalled. "Marseille has always been a club that I have supported. Even now, I keep an eye on Marseille all the time."
Mane has yet to play in Ligue 1, but he began his professional career with Metz in the French lower leagues just over a decade ago.
After Senegal's historic victory, he was praised for embracing his club teammate Mohamed Salah, who was part of Egypt's team that lost the final.
"I told him that he is still a very good player and that it's a pleasure to play for the same club," Senegal's star revealed when asked what he told Salah.
