With a win over Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday night, Liverpool will be able to keep pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Premier League's midweek fixtures continue on Thursday night, with title contenders Liverpool in action at Anfield as they prepare to face Leicester City.
Liverpool are currently unbeaten in all competitions, with their last defeat coming in late December of last year. Prior to the winter break, the Reds defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 in the Premier League.
They followed that up with a 3-1 win over Cardiff City in the FA Cup this past weekend.
Liverpool trail leaders Manchester City by nine points going into the game, and that gap is likely to grow to 12 if the champions beat Brentford. Jurgen Klopp's team now has no margin for error, though they do have a game in hand to help close the gap. However, things will not be easy against a Leicester City team that is determined to turn things around.
Tactics & Team News
Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and has been training with the team for the past few days, putting himself up for selection. Sadio Mane, on the other hand, is unlikely to play.
Jurgen Klopp will field his strongest lineup in an attempt to keep pace with the Premier League leaders with a win. Alisson Becker is Liverpool's undisputed starter in goal. The Brazilian will be protected by the centre-back pairing of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will fill in as full-backs and serve as Liverpool's primary chance-creators.
Fabinho, the Brazilian enforcer, is expected to return to the midfield after missing the cup tie over the weekend. He should take over for Henderson, and Thiago Alcantara could also make his debut. Veteran midfielder James Milner could fill the third spot to add more steel to the midfield.
Harvey Elliott, who returned from injury last time out, should see more time on the bench.
Salah is expected to start in his usual position on the right flank, having returned from national team duty and training with the team. The rest of the frontline will be made up of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, with January signing Luis Diaz possibly making his Premier League debut with a cameo in the second half.
Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Thiago, Fabinho, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Jota
Probable Lineup (3-4-1-2): Schmeichel; Justin, Vestergaard, Soyuncu; Pereira, Tielemans, Ndidi, Thomas; Dewsbury-Hall; Iheanacho, Daka
