Member of Parliament for the Mampong constituency in the Ashanti Region and deputy minister of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong has denied knowledge of the widely publicised report that the Ghana National Identity Card, the Ghana Card is set to be used as a valid e-passport which can be used at all 197 ICAO complaint countries.
According to the Deputy Minister, his Boss and the Ministry has no knowledge of such development. Speaking on Kumasi based Akoma FM, he indicated that the development is new to his Minister and the report is not officially from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
"Maybe the report is from a higher authority because my Minister and her deputies of which I am part are not privy to the said report".
The Vice President on his Facebook page the story of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Wednesday reported that the holders of the Ghana Card as well as it's future biometric equivalents can be presented as an official documentation for travels at all 197 complaint countries and the 44,000 airports.
Many news portals, print media outlets reported the story but the Ministry has denied knowledge of such report.
