Former Member of Parliament and longest serving General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularlo referred to as General Mosquito has charged the minority in Parliament to do everything within their power to resist the passage of the electronic transaction levy.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Scribe charged the minority to resist the government and majority from imposing on Ghanaians the e-levy.

"Do everything within your power to stop the majority from having it's way even if it will take the deputy to be slapped if he attempts to repeat what he wanted to do last in the chamber".

Ghanaians have been sharply divided on the electronic transaction levy introduced by the Finance Minister in the 2022 budget. It is expected to robe in over 6.5billion dollars for the construction of roads and creating an entrepreneurial environment.

Other usage of the proceeds from the levy will be used for the construction of stringent cyber security infrastructure.

The bill has been withdrawn and it's expected to be presented again later this month after broader consultations.
